10 Best Media Stocks To Invest In Right Now

We moved rapidly from a paper to a digital business and financial world. Digital assets and transactions probably are a bigger part of your life than you realize, even when you think you dont use much technology. The digital world needs to be in your estate plan, otherwise the cost and time involved in settling your estate could increase significantly. Assets could be lost; bills could go unpaid; and your estate and loved ones could incur additional and unnecessary costs.

Digital assets fall into several categories. First, there is the hardware, such as computers, smartphones, and tablet computers. Then, there are personal accounts such as email, text messaging, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+), and sites where you might store or post photos, videos, and similar items. You might have sub-scribed to or registered at other types of web sites.

Investment and bank accounts of course are important to your estate plan. Related to them are automatic payment transactions that youve authorized. These could be drafts from one of your accounts or charges to a credit or debit card.

Ringo Chiu/Zuma Press/Alamy There were plenty of winners and losers this week, including a fast-growing pastry shop that ran out of dough and had to shut its stores, and a maker of unmanned aircraft vehicles soaring after a blowout quarterly report. Here's a rundown of the week's best and worst. Nikola Tesla -- Winner Funding for a Nikola Tesla museum was announced on Thursday with Telsa Motors (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk is contributing $1 million to build the homage to Tesla on the grounds of the inventor's lab in Long Island. Brainy humorist Matthew "The Oatmeal" Inman has been championing a museum to honor the underrated visionary, taking to Twitter a few months ago to appeal for Musk's financial contribution. It worked. The museum's getting built. Musk gets one step closer to becoming Tony "Iron Man" Stark incarnate. And Tesla Motors does the right thing by honoring the man that gave it its name. The Container Store (TCS) -- Loser Remember when retailers dismissed concerns about sloppy holiday showings because of the snowstorms that blanketed a lot of the country in December and January? Remember how those same retailers then blamed the Easter holiday shift -- from March last year to April this year -- as a reason for the slow traffic the following quarter? Well, it seems that many chains are still stumbling, and they're running out of excuses. "We thought our sluggish sales were all because of weather and calendar shifts that began last November and continued into the spring, but now we've come to realize it's more than weather and calendar," The Container Store's CEO said on Tuesday. Kip Tindell blamed his storage and housewares store's weakness on a "retail funk" that's going around. Symptoms include "traffic declines" a "tepid retail environment" and "challenging sales." The Container Store warned that it will fall short of its earlier profit and sales targets for this fiscal year. Comparable store sales declined during the quarter ending in May, an

Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images Time Warner Cable's flirtation with potential merger suitors may include Comcast, which is seeking advice on possible regulatory hurdles if it should pursue a bid, sources told CNBC on Friday. Comcast (CMCSA) (CMCSK), the parent company of CNBC, is not in active discussions on deal terms with Time Warner Cable (TWC), these sources say, but is asking for guidance on antitrust and telecommunications-related issues. According to people familiar with the matter, TWC has made it clear that if it should sell itself, Comcast would be its preferred buyer. These people add that Comcast has been quietly mulling a merger with TWC for some time. The cable operator is on the verge of a bid from Charter Communications (CHTR), according to The Wall Street Journal, which said Charter is near an agreement with banks for the funds to make that offer. Analysts, however, say Time Warner's needs may be better suited with Comcast. "The synergies are very real, and Comcast would be a better fit," said Craig Moffett, founder and senior analyst at MoffettNathanson. He said that while the Department of Justice's anti-trust requirements may not pose an insurmountable challenge, the more stringent litmus test might come from the Federal Communications Commission.

Top Cheapest Stocks To Own For 2015

Treasury 10-year note yields reached a three-month high after a report showed durable-goods orders rose in November more than forecast, boosting the case for the Federal Reserve to slow bond-buying further.

U.S. government securities fell for a second day. The Federal Open Market Committee said after its Dec. 17-18 policy meeting it will cut its monthly asset purchases by $10 billion to $75 billion starting in January. Treasuries reached the cheapest level relative to stocks in 3 1/2 years Monday.

“The durable goods number was strong, a good indication that the economies contributors to growth are expanding,” said Adrian Miller, director of fixed-income strategies at GMP Securities. “One month doesn't make a trend, but it's something the market wanted to see and confirms what the Fed has been seeing that gave confidence for their taper.”

As it turned out, MSG's New York Rangers made the playoffs and will go up against the Washington Capitals in the first round. Finally, international offshore drilling contractorOcean Rig(Nasdaq: ORIG) has plans to drop down assets into an MLP in 2014.Seadrill Partners(NYSE: SDLP) is presently the only offshore driller structured as an MLP, and its rigs trade at a significant premium to those of Ocean Rig. Look for SEC filings related to this MLP during the second quarter.

  • [By P.I.A.]

The Norwegian driller has several investments in other companies. It holds roughly 12% of SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhp pursuant to sale of the tender rig business. There is also a Seadrill Partners LP (SDLP), after its October 2012 IPO, and its drilling units have been valued at a premium to Seadrill's own rigs. Seadrill owns 75% of SDLP and also 73% of North American Drilling.

  • [By Travis Hoium]

This contract comes with a dayrate of just over $600,000 for Seadrill, keeping the momentum rig owners have in deep water. The company has 10 ultra-deepwater semi-submersibles and 10 drillships in operation when you include the holdings of Seadrill Partners (NYSE: SDLP  ) . Five more drillships will be completed by the end of 2014, which will drive earnings higher if these high dayrates continue. Management expects that these new rigs will help drive 50% or greater EBITDA growth by 2015.

Based on these factors, I have a preference for the energy and informational technology sectors, accessible through the iShares S&P Global Energy Sector Fund (IXC) and the iShares S&P Global Technology Sector Fund (IXN). And as I write in my new Investment Directions commentary piece, if it turns out that we do see more investors rotating out of defensives and into more attractively priced cyclicals, these two sectors are poised to especially benefit.

Who's next, and when will this end?
If I'm right, then it's probably just a matter of time before MAKO Surgical (NASDAQ: MAKO  ) reveals similar weakness in its hip and knee procedure volume. A shortfall for MAKO would be more concerning, however, since it's still running in the red whereas Intuitive Surgical is healthfully profitable, even after last night's revenue miss.

Top Healthcare Technology Stocks To Watch For 2015

LONDON -- The FTSE 100 (FTSEINDICES: ^FTSE  ) has seen little change this morning, down 0.15% to 6,713 as of 8:45 a.m. EDT, but it remains close to the its 10-year high of 6,732.4, set in June 2007.

So which companies are holding back the indexes today? Here are three whose share prices are falling and look set to lag the wider market.

Polymetal (LSE: POLY  )
London-listed gold and silver producer Polymetal International is down 4.3%, continuing its fall since the turn of the year, when it was trading for as much as 1,218 pence -- today it stands at 606 pence.

Linked with the price of gold, which has been plummeting recently following the record prices in recent years, the likes of Polymetal are looking to cut costs ahead of further drops in the price of the precious metal.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Ben Levisohn]

According to ConocoPhillips (COP), 80% of U.S. shale oil could be produced profitably at oil prices around $40-80 while the CEO of Occidental Petroleum (OXY) has stated that much of oil production in the U.S. is viable at $753. Some companies such as Anadarko Petroleum (APC) have emphasized that recent developments in the commodity markets were not going to have much impact on its exploration plans. Others such as Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) have stated that the company could increase production by 16%- 21% through 2016 at oil prices in the range of $70-80 while EOG Resources (EOG) has maintained that it was going to post strong double-digit gains in oil production going forward despite the low price environment. Meanwhile, Chesapeake Energy (CHK) raised its production guidance for this year and noted that despite lower oil prices, declining production costs have enabled it to raise its production this year.

  • [By Arjun Sreekumar]

Chevron, like most of the large integrated oil companies, has struggled to boost production. However, in the first quarter this year, the company managed to grow total oil and gas production by a relatively impressive 0.8%.Compare that to ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM  ) , which reported a 3.5%year-over-year decline in production, and ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP  ) , which said production fell 3%from a year earlier.

  • [By Alex Dumortier, CFA]

That paragraph reads like a ringing endorsement of Buffett's decision to add ExxonMobil to Berkshire's portfolio and the one to reduce the existing ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP  ) position. However, I should note that Morningstar currently rates ExxonMobil as a three-star stock, which, according to their methodology, indicates that the current stock price is close to their fair value estimate and that the stock "should offer a "fair return," one that compensates for the riskiness of the stock." The Oracle of Omaha likes to make investments in the expectation that they will earn a return that's more than fair, but, given the size of Berkshire's portfolio, "fair" would hardly be a shameful result.

The top contributors to performance during the period were Trimble Navigation (TRMB), Sensata Technologies(ST) and Cadence Design Systems (CDS).

Trimble Navigation provides location-based solutions to its customers that enhance their productivity and profitability. The recovery in construction end markets and continued strong demand from the farm economy resulted in strong overall financial results for the company and a strong stock price. We trimmed the position as it began to exceed the upper end of the market cap range that we invest in. Sensata Technologies develops, manufactures and sells sensors and controls. We are attracted to the company large growth opportunity, which is driven by increased sensor penetration in industries such as automobiles and general industrial opportunities. Zhone Technologies (ZHNE), designs, de! velops, manufactures, and sells communications network equipment for telecommunications, wireless, and cable operators worldwide. This stock closed up 2.3% to $3.55 in Tuesday's trading session.

    Tuesday's Range: $3.46-$3.58
    52-Week Range: $2.08-$6.62
    Tuesday's Volume: 198,000
    Three-Month Average Volume: 357,117

From a technical perspective, ZHNE trended notably higher here right above its 50-day moving average of $3.24 with lighter-than-average volume. This stock has been uptrending a bit over the last few weeks, with shares moving higher from its low of $3.03 to its intraday high of $3.58. During that move, shares of ZHNE have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move is now starting to push shares of ZHNE within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if ZHNE manages to take out Tuesday's intraday high of $3.58 and then once it clears more resistance at $3.83 to its 200-day moving average of $3.92 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ZHNE as long as it's trending above its 50-day at $3.24 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 357,117 shares. If that breakout kicks off soon, then ZHNE will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $4.24 to $4.45, or even $4.80 to $5.

Hot Blue Chip Companies To Buy Right Now: McDonald's Corporation(MCD)

McDonald?s Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, operates as a worldwide foodservice retailer. It franchises and operates McDonald?s restaurants that offer various food items, soft drinks, coffee, and other beverages. As of December 31, 2009, the company operated 32,478 restaurants in 117 countries, of which 26,216 were operated by franchisees; and 6,262 were operated by the company. McDonald?s Corporation was founded in 1948 and is based in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By James E. Brumley]

Kudos to McDonald's Corporation (NYSE:MCD) for recognizing it has problems and then working to solve them. Unfortunately, a big chunk of the problems it thinks it has aren't the problems it actually has, making its solutions mostly off-target. MCD need not get too excited about the turnaround effort.

  • [By WWW.DAILYFINANCE.COM]

David Duprey/AP As people express distaste for food they think is overly processed, fast food chains like McDonald's (MCD) are trying to shed their reputation for serving reheated meals that are loaded with chemicals. That includes rethinking the use of artificial preservatives and other ingredients customers find objectionable. "This demand for fresh and real is on the rise," said Greg Creed, CEO of Yum Brands (YUM), which owns Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut. During the presentation for analysts and investors last month, Creed said the company needs to be more transparent about ingredients and use fewer preservatives. Recasting fast-food as "fresh" and "real" will be tricky, in large part because it's so universally regarded as cheap and greasy. Another problem is that terms like "fresh," ''real" and "healthy" have nebulous meanings, making it hard for companies to pin down how to approach transformation. Would You Like Brominated Vegetable Oi! l With That?

  • [By James E. Brumley]

The country's chefs have spoken, and sorry Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE:YUM) and McDonald's Corporation (NYSE:MCD) - you're likely to lose even more relevance and marketability in 2015. Meanwhile, good news for Giggles N Hugs Inc. (OTCMKTS:GIGL) - the coming years restaurant trends look like they're going to play right into your hand.

Best Rising Stocks To Invest In 2015

DELAFIELD, Wis. (Stockpickr) -- Professional traders running mutual funds and hedge funds don't just look at a stock's price moves; they also track big changes in volume activity. Often when above-average volume moves into an equity, it precedes a large spike in volatility.

Unusual volume can also be a major signal that hedge funds and momentum traders are piling into a stock ahead of a catalyst. Put them all together to help you decipher the next big trend for any stock.

NSN is a joint venture with Siemens (SI) in the field of telecoms infrastructure. Its chief competitors are the likes of Alcatel-Lucent (ALU), Ericsson (ERIC) and yes, Huawei. As the latter is a rather opaquely-owned Chinese company, we cannot use it to help create a valuation for NSN. However, I believe using the first two companies mentioned is sufficient to give us a decent indication of NSN's true value.

It certainly wasn't smiles for everyone on the clinical front, though, as Idenix Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: IDIX  ) took a late-week 31% tumble after announcing that the FDA was requesting additional safety information about its preclinical investigational hepatitis-C drug, IDX20963. As my Foolish colleague Brian Orelli noted, it's not exactly clear what information the FDA is looking for, but this inquiry puts a hold on Idenix's starting clinical trials until it satisfies the requests of the FDA. This marks the third pipeline candidate that's been placed on clinical hold in just the past year and could be the last straw for fed-up investors.
